Farmers State Bank Recognizes World Password Day

May 1 is World Password Day, and here at Farmers State Bank, we’re reminding our community how critical it is to protect your personal and financial information online. In an age where cyber threats are constantly evolving, a strong password is your first line of defense.

“Protecting your personal information and financial accounts has never been more important,” said Scott Stanley, President of Farmers State Bank. “Using a strong, unique password is one of the easiest ways to secure your data and your finances.”

To help keep your accounts safe, Farmers State Bank recommends these smart password practices:

🔐 Make it long

Aim for at least 12 characters. The longer the password, the harder it is for cyber criminals to crack it using brute-force methods.

🔐 Mix it up

Use a combination of numbers, symbols, uppercase, and lowercase letters to strengthen your password.

🔐 Use a passphrase

A memorable phrase (e.g., ILike2Farm&C0rn! or The$unSetzInIowa) can help you remember a complex password while still keeping it secure.

🔐 Change passwords regularly

Don’t hang onto the same password forever. Change it periodically, and avoid reusing old passwords.

🔐 Don’t reuse passwords

Each account should have a unique password. Reusing the same password across sites increases your vulnerability.

🔐 Try a password manager

Consider using a secure password manager like 1Password or Bitwarden to store your login information safely.

🔐 Enable two-factor authentication

Adding an extra layer of protection—like a code sent to your phone or biometric verification—can help keep hackers out, even if they have your password.

Cybersecurity starts with you. Use World Password Day as a reminder to strengthen your digital defenses and protect what matters most.
